Yogallegro demonstrations
Shoulder rotation
Some-a-times-a you shoulders come-a forward, and some-a-times-a they go-a back-a.
(We have a some Italians in class, so I’m just trying to be accomomdating.)
Dancer pose
Dancer is both a balancing pose and a back bend. With your hand to the arch of your raised foot, launch your torso forward, as though your legs are a bow and your body is the arrow. (I always wonder why they don’t just call it bow pose :)
inversion
Hanging upside down at the end of yoga class helps your lymphatic system filter out the toxins released during your practice. The ancient yogis say that if you can hang upside down for three hours per day, you would never die. They are, of course, all dead.
It’s all about the pelvis, baby!
This short video demonstrates the difference between a tucked and an untucked pelvis and when you need to be aware of the position of your pelvis.
From forward fold to Plank
Watch this to get a better idea of how to place your hands on the mat when going from forward fold to high plank.
stacking your shoulders over your hips
This comes into play in the Warrior poses as well as in Crescent lunge, where we tend to lean forward.
forward folding from the hips and leading with the chest
Think of your forward folds - whether seated or standing - as being more of a swan dive. This will come into play for standing forward fold, seated forward fold and even in pyramid pose when we are folding over the front leg.
Coming in and out of plank pose
We call it “plank” because you should think of your body as a board with no ability to bend at the waist. No bendy at the waisty!
